A group calling itself ‘Occupy Ablekuma West NPP’ has accused the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of condoning illegality.
According to the group, even though they are determined to make sure that the NPP retains the seat and wins the presidential slot, actions of the executives are demoralizing them and that the earlier the party stands up and sanction those behind the illegalities, the future of the party will be bleak.
In a petition signed by Madam Millicent Okoh, Mr. Joseph Essiamah and Madam Lydia Quaye, the group said efforts to support the party is being frustrated by the gurus in the party and demanded the immediate sanctioning of Theophilus Tettey, who is aspiring to become the parliamentary candidate.
According to them, Theophilus Tetteh, who used to serve as a constituency chairman has brought about despondency and apathy within the party in the constituency.
‘Occupy Ablekuma West NPP’ argued that judging by the actions of the aspirant, he is not qualified to vie for the position and called for his immediate disqualification.
The aggrieved members, who are operating under the name ‘Occupy Ablekuma West NPP’ noted in the petition, which they have distributed to both the regional and national headquarters of the party that various attempts to persuade the party leadership to correct the illegalities created by Theophillus Tettey, who ended up being chairman of the constituency, hit hard rock.
Suspecting that there were under-hand dealings with Theo, as he is affectionately called in the constituency, the group warned that the NPP risks losing the seat if the leadership looks on unconcerned and allowe the wrong to continue.
The spokesperson of the group, Ms. Millicent Okoh, supported by Joseph Essiamah and Madam Lydia Quaye said though the NDC has proven to be non-performing, it stands the chance to reclaim the seat on a silver platter.
According to the group members, they suspect underhand dealings otherwise numerous petitions they have sent to the party hierarchy would have been addressed. To them, because of the love they have for the party, they could not go public with the said underhand dealings.
According to them, Theo does not qualify to contest the primaries because he has not only violated the party’s constitution but has brought the name of the party into disrepute.
“We are calling for his disqualification because during the 2012 general elections campaign, he violated his duties as member of the party as stated in our constitution. He has peddled falsehood against the former constituency chairman, William Akakpo, cast insinuations at party members because he has the support of some people.”
