Ama Gyamfuah to miss world cup?

Nana Ama Gyamfuah, Black Queens' head striker could miss the forth edition of the FIFA version of the women world cup slated for the United States in September following a leg injury.

Gyamfuah who sustained an ankle injury when the Queens played a fund raising friendly game in Kumasi as part of the team's preparations towards the world cup is likely to be out of action for the next six weeks.

As a result, the striker has the leg in the Plaster of Paris (POP) and is currently recuperating at her Dansoman residence while the team is in camp at the Winneba Sports College.

When the GNA Sports spoke to the dreadful striker, she was optimistic that the injury would heal fast enough to enable her join her colleagues and to be part of the US campaign.

She called on Ghanaians to pray for her so that she would be fit before September when the event takes off. Coach Oko Aryee, head of the technical team of the Queens said it would be a big blow to lose the striker to injury at a time when the team needed her in the quest to build cohesive squad before the tournament.

He however expressed the optimism that the player would not miss the boat at a result of the injury. "I hope she can recover early enough before we leave for the tourney," he told the GNA Sports. Gyamfuah, is one of the few players who has played in almost all the international competitions of the Queens. In the Queens maiden appearance in the USA in 1999, she emerged as the goal getter for the team in that abortive trip.
