Mr Kofi Baidoo, an aspirant for the National Organiser position of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP), has advocated that the party developed a 21st century Nkrumaisim social democratic political identity to attract the broad masses to join.
“CPP as the founder of the nation has a huge goodwill among the older generation but unfortunately within the younger generation, CPP does not exist, we belong to the past political realm.
“It is now time to face reality, develop an evolving political identity and brand image which will attract the youth whilst protecting our historical image,” Mr Baidoo told the Ghana News Agency in an interview in Accra.
Mr Biadoo said CPP needed men and women with modern day political vibration and fortitude to defend the party irrespective of the peril at all times, and integrity to provide dynamism.
The CPP National Organiser aspirant, who is a teacher, said the was an urgent need for CPP to project its own political image; “we cannot be an appendage of any political party.
He said: “Days of serving under the benevolence and shadow of other political parties are over; true CPP members must stand up and be counted. Vote for men and women of integrity at the National Delegates Congress who will not sell our birth rights for a portage”.
Mr Baidoo, who described himself as the logical choice for the party’s National Organiser slot, called for a re-branded CPP that was well energized and poised to re-capture its past political glory.
He said considering the crucial nature of next year’s general election, the CPP needed to redeem its dwindling electoral fortunes and reposition itself as a formidable political force in the country.
He said it had become imperative for the party to have a more experienced, committed, competent, visionary, resourceful, principled, independent-minded and results-oriented National Organiser who could mobilise the members and marshal all the necessary resources, both human and material, to contest and make a strong impact in Election 2016.
Mr Baidoo said since the advent of the Fourth Republic, the CPP had been on the fringes of the country’s political system and the situation seemed to be getting worse, given the party’s dwindling political fortunes.
He emphasised the need to build the party in such a way as to link all constituency offices to regional offices and then regional offices to the national office, to ensure effective communication.
He said the CPP needed renovation and innovation to shore up the party fortunes in the next general election; such an endeavour required unity, consensus building and tenacity of purpose.
In that respect, there was the need to replenish the party's human resource base through capacity building of its leaders, as well as identifiable groups such as the youth and women’s wings; tertiary networks; Council of Elders; past and present Members of Parliament and leading members of the party.
Mr Baidoo said since no single individual could achieve this, such an exercise required “all hands on deck” to enable the party to make good use of the skills and resources of its members.
