The national women’s organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Hajia Joyce Zainabu Mahama, has entreated qualified women in the party to contest in the upcoming parliamentary primaries.

She said the NDC is hoping to increase the number of women representation in the country’s governance system, hence the decision to cut down on the filing fees for women aspirants by 50 percent.

Hajia Mahama has therefore expressed the readiness of her office to support women who will take advantage of the waiver to contest in the November 7 parliamentary and presidential primaries.

The leader of the NDC women’s wing was speaking to Starr News’ Volta regional correspondent Lambert Atsivor on the sidelines of a one-day workshop for all regional women organizers and their deputies at Sogakope in the Volta region.

She said: “The time has come for all of us to be in governance, so I'm urging every woman who is capable, who thinks that she has done a lot for her people and the party to go out and pick forms to contest in the upcoming elections.

“I have the believe that, if women take the lead they will get support. That assertion that women envy themselves, women don't like their colleagues to go forward, has been debunked through education.”

The parliamentary and presidential primaries have been slated for November 7.
