Angry students of the Institute of Professional Studies (IPS) are calling for the blood of 11 pro-NDC students of
the Institute who went on a demonstration in support of the government's proposed plan to impose fees on tertiary institutions. The 11, all members of the Tertiary Institution Network (TEIN) of the NDC went on the said demonstration claiming to represent the entire student body of IPS. Once the Ghanaian Times, a paper seen by many as extremely pro-NDC published the story, angry students of the institute called an emergency during which they demanded the blood of the eleven for betraying the students' cause.
It is learned that the frightened TEIN members lodged a complaint at the NDC headquarters on their plight at which instance a delegation was sent to the institute to ensure their safety. However, the Students Representative Council of the Institute have failed to guarantee the safety of the 11 in view of the fact that the demonstration was unilaterally taken without approval from the SRC.
Mr Albert Gyamfi-Lartey, co-ordinating Secretary of the National Union of Ghana Students in a remark said they understood the political implications and the forces that were behind the demonstrations. "Posterity would not forgive these traitors for betraying students' just cause for freedom and justice" he added.
