The mortal remains of the late Samuel Kwabena Danso, former Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) and Special Aide to ex-military Head of State, General Ignatius Kutu Achampong, were at the weekend laid to rest at Kokofu in the Bekwai Municipality.
Present to pay their last respect were stalwarts of the CPP and other high profile politicians from across the political divide, traditional rulers and the clergy.
The CPP eulogized the deceased for his selflessness, loyalty, support, dedication and service not only to the party but the nation,
He was its leading light in Ashanti – always there with his family to fly the flag of the party, it stated.
There were other tributes by the Methodist Church, the family of the late General Achampong, Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom, Industrialist and Politician, and the Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship, International, represented by the Reverend Dr. Kwabena Darko.
Earlier, delivering the sermon at the burial service at the Kumasi Wesley Cathedral, the Most Reverend Emmanuel Kwaku Asante, Chairman of the National Peace Council, urged Ghanaians to overcome the greed and obsession with material wealth.
They should reject the lust for money, gossip, envy and other evil practices.
He said it was important for everybody to recognize that they would one day be made to answer to God for all wicked deeds.
“Those of us who think death is the end of life, should have a change of mind, it is never true, for judgement is waiting before the mortal body becomes immortal, corruptible to incorruptible.”
The Most Rev Asante encouraged Christians to remain hopeful and continue to live pure and upright lives to become good example to others in the society.
He counseled political tolerance and asked politicians to learn a cue from the late Danso, a known CPP activist, who got on well with people in the other parties.
Politics must never be allowed to divide the nation, he said, adding that differences in political opinion should not tear the people apart.
The deceased is survived by a wife, Mrs. Dorothy Danso, National President, Aglow International, Ghana, 14 children and 37 grandchildren.
