Former Ejisu-Juaben Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Kwaku Afrifa Yamoah Ponko, has called for the immediate investigation of the Ashanti Regional Security Coordinator, Enoch Amoako, by the party leadership, days after his defeat by Deputy Ashanti Regional Women’s Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Gloria Huze, in the party’s Saturday parliamentary primary in Ejisu.
Ms Huze polled 1,150 votes to beat the former MCE and one other person, K. Obeng Darko, who polled 366 and 796 votes respectively.
Yamoah Ponkoh wants the Ashanti Regional Security Coordinator investigated following Appiah Stadium, an NDC serial caller’s claim that Mr Amoako told him (Appiah) that the NDC leadership favoured some candidates during the party’s parliamentary polls in the Ashanti Region.
Appiah Stadium, speaking on Nhyira FM, said the security capo even showed him a list of the NDC parliamentary aspirants who were supported clandestinely by the party to win their various elections.
Appiah said the list which Mr Amoako showed to him included names such as Peter Anarfi Mensah, the Ashanti Regional Minister and Brogya Genfi, the Ashanti Regional Youth Organiser, among others.
Appiah lambasted the security coordinator for creating deep cracks within the party since he assumed office, urging the party’s leadership do something about him.
He said Mr Amoako had adopted divide-and-rule tactics ever since he started working as the Ashanti Regional Security Coordinator, a development he claimed was causing problems for the NDC.
Appiah dared Mr Amoako to come on air and deny that he (Amoako) showed him a list of people he claimed were supported by the NDC hierarchy to win the party’s primaries some few days to the polls.
Kofi Asante, host of the show, said on air that he had called Mr Amoako several times on phone to comment on the subject but the security capo refused to answer the calls.
Yamoah Ponkoh, who also called into the show, said Mr Amoako’s refusal to comment on the issue didn’t mean that the important issue should be swept under the carpet by the party.
He tasked the ruling political party to take the matter up by investigating the security coordinator to determine whether Appiah’s allegations were true.
