A lawyer, Gary Nimako Marfo, has accused Ghana’s Electoral Commission of protecting National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) parliamentary candidate-elect in the Klottey Korle Constituency, Zanetor Rawlings from the rigors of the law.

Nimako Marfo of the Sarfo & Marfo @ Law firm, on November 24 wrote to the Electoral Commission to find out if Dr. Rawlings’ name was in the nation’s Voters’ Register.

The daughter of former President Jerry John Rawlings has been accused of not being a registered voter hence her inability to vote for herself when she run for the Klottey Korle seat.

“I have done my research and I know for sure she is not a registered voter,” Nimako told Accra-based Citi FM.

He said although he has run his checks, his letter requires a formal reply from the EC, which can be used to confirm or deny the allegations.

In the letter, the lawyer sought answers to the following.

"1. Whether or not Dr. Ezanator (Zanetor) Rawlings is a registered voter within the meaning of Article 94 (1)(a) of the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana.”

“2. If so when was her name entered into the electoral register?”

“3.Please furnish us with a certified true copy of the voter’s register.”

He, however, alleged the officials of the Electoral Commission have delayed in their reply and have been avoiding him since he submitted the letter.

“I think it's better we call the chair and ask her to answer the question... anytime I go there they say they are busy or in a meeting or something else…” he added.
