Members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) and supporters of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) clashed at the funeral grounds of Bantamahene Baffuor Amankwaa V on Thursday afternoon at Bantama, a suburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.
Supporters of NPP were believed to have started it all, when they were seen hooting at President John Dramani Mahama upon his arrival at the funeral grounds with his entourage.
Ultimate news’ Isaac Bediako reports that members of NDC who were not enthused about the conduct of their political opponent, also retaliated ending in a scuffle between the two parties.
It took the timely intervention of some opinion leaders who were disgusted by the conduct of the two largest political parties to restore calm to allow mourners file past the body of the late Chief who doubles as the Chief Warrior of the Golden Stool.
Though the fight did not disrupt the funeral celebration, some of the chiefs expressed their displeasure over the misconduct of the two parties and have directed the leadership of both parties to call their supporters to order.
If the conduct of the two parties on Thursday is anything to go by, then the electorates should expect more as the election tempo in the country heats up ahead of the November 7 polls.
