The Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West constituency, Mrs Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, has denied allegations that she was involved in the compilation of one of two registers being used in Saturday’s parliamentary primary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Mrs Owusu-Ekuful, who is seeking to be re-elected by the delegates as the party’s candidate for the constituency ahead of the November 7 polls, has been accused by some constituents of forcing the hand of the NPP’s National Executive Committee to direct that two registers be used for the poll.

The allegations have come mainly from the camp of her main rival, Theophilus Tetteh, who withdrew from the race on Friday April 8, in protest to the use of two registers for the poll, which he felt was drawn up by the MP with the connivance of the NEC, to give her an advantage in the race.

But speaking with Class News’ Ekow Annan as voting got underway; the MP denied the allegation saying: “I did not produce any album; I know the people who are in the album because they are New Patriotic Party members in this constituency. I am the New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament for the constituency. It is my duty to know my members in this constituency. So, I know them, but I did not produce the album.

“I did not go round selecting people to put in any album. I didn’t put anybody’s photographs or phone number in any album. I was not responsible for producing the album. If Mr Tetteh and his people say that then they are peddling falsehood.

“The old album contains their sisters and brothers and girlfriends and wives and mothers and fathers. They are all members of the New Patriotic Party, so, they are entitled to also work for the party in this constituency. So, there is absolutely nothing wrong with members of our family being part of the delegates roll in this constituency. It happens everywhere.”

Mr Tetteh’s withdrawal from the race leaves only two candidates – the incumbent Ursula Owusu and Roni Kwesi Nicole – to vie for the ticket to represent the party in the November 7 parliamentary election.
