Rustum Gameli Senorgbe
A young man has picked nomination forms to contest as an independent parliamentary candidate in the Ketu South constituency of the Volta region.
Rustum Gameli Senorgbe, who is in his early 30s, picked the forms at the Electoral Commission's district office at Tokor-Denu on Monday, less than four days to the close of nominations.
If successful with the filing process, Mr. Senorgbe who is a native of Agbozume in the constituency will be attempting to unseat the incumbent Member of Parliament and Minister for transport, Fifi Kwetey who is serving his first term on the ticket of the governing NDC.
He however, seem unperturbed about the task ahead, taking inspiration from the biblical 'David and Goliath' story, Mr. Senorgbe told Starr news, he has done his homework and ready to cause a change in the most voter populated constituency in the Volta region.
"I know the current MP is a big boy in the political circles and he has his support base. But once there is a Goliath, there is a David somewhere who can make things happen. We have begun this campaign long ago and there is a silence majority on the ground who will only make their decision in the voting booth. So I'm very positive of my chances."
Mr. Senorgbe, who is a Ho-based broadcast journalist and a class one referee said his motivation for joining the race, is to empower the people of his constituency to be economically independent to fend for themselves.
"The basic duty of an MP is to make laws and I have what it takes to contribute to the laws of this country. But beyond that, I will be a development advocate, seeking solutions to the challenges confronting our people, the traders who struggle on daily basis to do business across the border. Our fishing and the kente industries also need support to make them viable, and these are the kind of advocacy I want to lead once I am elected into the august house," he told Starr News' Lambert Atsivor.
The young aspirant, however dispelled rumours that, he is being pushed into the race by some disgruntled members of the NDC from his side of the constituency to split the party's votes, in order to distort the NDC's agenda 120, 000 votes target in the December polls.
