The National Executive Committee of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has ordered members particularly, elected officers to desist from running comments in the media on reasons why the party was defeated in the general polls.

The statement signed by the party’s National Chairman, Kofi Portuphy asked members to channel their concerns to the Kwesi Botchwey led committee-that was set up to investigate the cause of the humiliating defeat of the NDC.

Some senior members of the NDC have launched an attack on former president John Dramani Mahama. He has been described as incompetent and a ‘’naked’’ leader who surrounded himself with inexperienced people.

Former Interior Minister, Mark Wayongo, said, "I think the former President tried to satisfy a whole lot of people, but it didn't go the way it should have gone and I am not ready to talk about the issues in the media." But the statement has called for ceasefire.

The statement read: ''The National Executive Committee has noted with concern the tendency of some party members to take to the media on the circumstances leading to the party's loss in the 2016 elections and who may have contributed to the loss.

Much as we all have a right to speak out, the use of the media to run down fellow party members is rather unfortunate and must end.

The Committee headed by Prof. Kwesi Botchwey has been constituted by the Party to go round the country to among others talk to the grassroots and report on the circumstances leading to the 2016 defeat with the view to defining the viable pathway to reorganize and recapture political power in 2020.

We urge party members to address all concerns to the Prof. Kwesi Botchwey Committee. We further urge you to offer the Committee the space and time to complete its work.

Pursuant to this, the National Executive Committee calls for a cessation of further interviews and comments in the media on this matter.

This appeal goes particularly to elected officials of the party who must recognize that they owe it to themselves to leave a legacy of Peace and Unity in the party.''
