No Mahama for 2020 - Botchwey Committee report

But is it true that Akufo-Addo was/is uncorrupt and incorruptible while Mahama is/was the exact opposite? If this is the conclusion of the Ghanaian electorate, and for which reason they rejected Mahama in favour of Akufo-Addo, according to the Botchway Committee report, then they are indeed very, very stupid. Even if the corruption index plays a part in President Mahama and the NDC's loss, it is not the key reason. Fact is, Ghanaians do not vote on the basis of issues, otherwise there is no way former president Kufuor and current president Akufo-Addo could win elections in Ghana, because the two and their administration are known to be corrupt to the core. They even falsely claim to be lawyers, but no one knows which law institution trained them.

When it comes to elections, Ghanaians tend to vote on the basis of ethnicity. The main reason why Mahama was rejected at the 2016 polls is his unwise decision to disproportionately appoint his northern folks to key positions, people who are looked down upon and are given derogatory names like Pepeni by the Asantes. When Mahama's critics refer to his administration as being incompetent, it is because of his overwhelming appointment of his northern folks to the key positions. Yes, Kufuor's appointees were disproportionately Asantes and he himself did not shy away from that fact; indeed, he boldly admitted during his administration at a press conference that he did disproportionately appoint his Asante folks to most of the positions and that he did so because the Asantes overwhelmingly voted him to power. Yes, Kufuor could get away with that because of the mere number of the Asantes and other Akans, who constitute 44% of Ghana's population (not 47% or 50% as some false state, if one bears in mind the fact that the Nzemas are not Akans).

Mahama, on the other hand, needed not only his northern folks but Akans also to vote for him before he and his party could win the presidency. But he seemed to have forgotten this simple wisdom and did not appoint large numbers of Akans to key positions in his administration as former President Rawlings had done. The majority of Rawlings appointments were Akans, especially the Asantes and Fantes. That Mahama failed to do this was the beginning of his down fall. One should recall the leaked secret tape in which Osafo Marfo, an Akan, complained that those who did not have the natural resources of the country (the Northerners) were ruling over them and that nowhere in the world did that happen. Similarly, Prof. E. Adei, former rector of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) also complained that 86% of Mahama's appointees were his northern folks.

The truth is that when it comes to corruption, Akufo-Addo is more corrupt than Mahama. The numerous allegations of Akufo-Addo's corruption is available to Ghanaians to see. They are incomparable with Mahama's. It is therefore totally false for anyone to conclude that Akufo-Addo was viewed as being uncorrupt and incorruptible while Mahama was the exact opposite.
