NPP to hold its 2017 National delegates Conference in Cape Coast

The governing NPP has slated its 2017 National Delegates Conference in August expected to last for two days between August 25 and August 27.

The event, which is a constitutional requirements of the party's constitution, will afford the Party the opportunity to review its activities and put in place appropriate systems and measures for its smooth operation.

It will also take decisions regarding some proposed constitutional amendments and replace all of its national executives who have been appointed to serve in government.

Addressing the media at the party head office on its intended conference in Cape Coast, the Acting General Secretary, John Boadu, explained that directive has been sent to all levels of the party structure to conform to all constitutional requirements ahead of the event.

"The party in a memo dated June 1st 2017 directed all regional executive committees to organise their respective annual delegates’ conference not later than July 26 2017. The party has directed that all regional executives are to furnish the national secretariat with detailed activities not later than 30th of June 2017"

He clarified that the regional delegates conference shall be attended by all constituency chairpersons, members of parliaments, regional and deputy ministers and representatives from the National Executives among others.

He also reiterated the importance of these regional conferences citing some constitutional basis for this.

He disabused the notion that elections of party executives will take place during these conferences.

He stated emphatically that the any election of that sought to elect party executives will be done next year when the tenure of the incumbent runs to an end.

"For the avoidance of doubt, the party wishes to state emphatically that these delegate conferences will not include the election or re-election of party executives to occupy the various positions at the constituencies, regional and national levels because the mandate of the current executives are yet to expire."

He said the party will release a calendar of conferences at the appropriate time where elections for party executives will be held.

Reacting to news of some members who have already begun campaigning for these party executive positions, John Boadu warned that they ought to tread cautiously to avoid any agitations.

He appealed for all members to assist the government deliver on its mandate and not fail the Ghanaian people like the previous administration did.
