Tamale, Aug 18, GNA - Madam Mariama Dakpemah, Northern Regional Women's Organiser of the Convention People's Party (CPP), on Wednesday appealed to women to solicit the support of Ghanaians and to vote for the party to win power in the 2004 elections.

She said criticizing leaders of other parties and insults could not help any party to win elections, adding that, only hard work, humility, acceptance of other people's good views and "pleading with the electorate to exercise their franchise in favour of our party would do the trick" based on our manifesto.

Madam Dapkemah made the appeal at a meeting with various women groups of the party, in Tamale.

The meeting was to afford the women with an opportunity to brainstorm and to see how best they could contribute to ensure victory for the party in the impending general elections.

Women constituted more than half of the population of eligible voters in the country and it is sad that men take the lead in all spheres of leadership in governance, she said, adding that, it was time women worked for the CPP to win power to change the trend. Madam Dapkemah gave the assurance that the women's wing of the party in Tamale would work hard to ensure that the party won more 10 seats in the 23 constituencies in the Northern Region.

Mr Albert Atutiga, a leading member of the CPP on behalf of the Regional Chairman, Dr Delle, commended the women for taking the initiative to reorganize the party.

He said CPP was the only alternative party to the "non-performing" NPP and called on supporters of the party to discard the perception that CPP could not win power and to work tirelessly to ensure victory. 18 Aug 04
