Juapong (V/R), Oct 19, GNA - A top member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has appealed to the people of the Volta Region to consider joining the nationwide desire for the positive change the NPP was promoting to help it to retain power in Election 2004.
Mr Obed Okudzeto, a founding member of the Party in the Region, said people who had doubted the capacity of the Government should realise that the country was on the right path to development. He said this when he launched the Party's North Tongu Constituency campaign and introduced its Parliamentary Candidate, Mr Nicholas Ahiadorme at a rally at Juapong on Sunday.
Mr Okudzeto said it was time the people in the Region ignored the lies being peddled by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and joined the NPP so as to be part of the process of the good things going in the country.
He said the performance of the Government in the past three years outstripped that in NDC's eight-year rule. ''NDC's times are gone. Vote for President John Agyekum Kufuor and Mr Ahaidorme, the parliamentary candidate.''
Mr Ahiadorme, District Chief Executive of North Tongu, said the Government had put in place massive physical infrastructure nationwide and would be retained in power this year.
He said the District benefited from 123 projects in roads, education, water and sanitation, health, electrification and agriculture, thereby alleviating poverty to some extent. Mr Ahiadorme said the promotion of peace among the people and communities would remain his major task.
He said he was sure by the attendance at the campaign launch compared to that of 2000 that NPP this time would be attracting a good number of votes in the Region to brighten its chances for victory. Mr Kofi Osei Ameyaw, Ghana's High Commissioner in Australia, who is the parliamentary candidate for Asuogyaman, said though NDC also played its part the NPP was laying a major foundation for the country which every Ghanaian needed to support.
