Broadcast Journalist and host of Metro TV's current affairs news programme, Good Evening Ghana, Paul Adom Otchere has suggested that extravagant National Delegate Congress of political parties should be abolished to curb corruption.
According to him, national officers should be appointed by flagbearers just as they chose their running mates.
He added that the usual national delegate congress organized by political parties cost politicians and by extension the nation a lot of time, money and eats up into the corruption narrative of the political system in the country.
“……as a country, we should have another look at political parties law and see whether we can stop the elections of national officers in terms of electing them by the ballots…”
“…It costs us a lot of time and money. We saw what happened at the NPP congress in Koforidua. It eats up into corruption narrative of political system because the guy you are going to elect as party chairman is not going to be on the ballot to represent the party for the main election. He is not going to be a key driver for the people of the country in terms of determining what policy directions they follow when the party wins the election, but you have to spend so much money, so much time; you have to find to be able to elect him.” He said.
He added that national officers should be appointed by flagbearers to reduce the cost involved in holding National Delegates Congress or publish for people to apply for national office positions.
