Nurideen Iddrisu
Nurideen Iddrisu, a banker and oil and gas consultant is of the view the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has a brighter chance of winning the 2020 general elections if he is elected as the party’s flag bearer.
Speaking to Abdul Hayi Moomen, Host of GBC24’s current Affairs Programme Moomen Tonight MyNewsGh.com keenly followed, he was quoted as saying “what is important is for the party to elect me, we have tried the so-called experienced hands and the result is what we saw in 2016. I am the ideal candidate to change the fortunes of the party and bring it back to power in 2020”
Chances of Winning
Responding to a question about his chances of winning the presidential primary, Alhaji Nurideen Iddrisu noted with confidence that his chances were extremely bright since he comes from the background of a banker and a businessman who has shown tangible results at job creation and management.
“I believe that I have a better knowledge and understanding of the economy and what it will take to turn around the country’s fortunes than any of the other aspirants. I believe that Ghanaians are looking for a competent and experienced leader with a good track record and my good works are amply demonstrated everywhere. My track record speaks for itself” He said.
He said the NDC lost the 2016 election due to the numerous allegations of corruption that were leveled against the government and that, given the fact that similar allegations of corruption have been levelled against the current government, he believed that the electorates are now looking for somebody with the highest level of integrity, trustworthiness, honesty and who had no record of corruption.
Contribution to the NDC
When asked about his contribution to the fortunes of the party over the years, Alhaji Iddrissu said since 1992 he has contributed to the fortunes of the party at both national level and at the regional Level in the Upper West Region, where he hails from. He said he had over the years, contributed financially to the NDC presidential campaigns and at the regional level, he has helped the party to win the Upper West Region since 1996.
He may not be as popular a candidate as ex-president John Mahama, Mr Spio Garbrah of Mr Alban Bagbin but the complexity of the 2020 elections demands that a new face, with solid roots within the NDC, emerges to restore faith in Ghana.
He told Moomen that he has the blessings of the elders of the party and the support of the grassroots to lead a new cause for change and set a new agenda of empowerment not just for the youth but for the Ghanaian in general.
The opposition National Democratic Congress NDC will begin the search for a new presidential candidate ahead of the 2020 elections.
So far, 12 persons have expressed the desire to lead the NDC into what promises to be a defining moment for the party as they make attempts at winning back the presidential seat they lost to the New Patriotic Party in the 2016 elections.
They include former President John Dramani Mahama, former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Sylvester Mensah, Dr. Ekwow Spio Garbrah, a former Trade and Industry Minister; Former Vice Chancellor of the University for Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Prof. Joshua Alabi, Cape Coast South MP, Kweku Ricketts-Hagan and Goosie Tanoh.
The rest are, Alban Bagbin, Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Stephen Atubiga, member of NDC communications team; Elipklim Agbemava, a lawyer; David Doste Kwame Kuwadah; and a banker and oil and gas consultant, Nurideen Iddrisu.
