NDC Delegates Congress: 65 aspirants contesting for positions

A total of 65 aspirants are contesting for various national positions at the 9th delegate’s congress of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The Congress which will be taking place at the Trade Fair Center, Accra on Saturday, November 17, 2018, will see a new batch of national executives elected to lead the opposition party into the 2020 general elections.

Chairman of the planning committee, Alex Segbefia told journalists that by the time the new executives are ready to go through another delegates elections, the NDC will be the government in power.

“We have a total of 65 aspirants who wish to hold the positions available. 6 female aspirants and 59 male aspirants” he said.

Mr Segbefia added that for the Chairmanship position 5 persons are aspiring; 4 males and a female. The Vice Chairmanship position has 9 aspirants contesting; 8 males and a female.

“The General Secretary is an all-male affair and we have 2 aspirants, the Deputy General Secretary position we have 11 aspirants; 10 males and 1 female. For the National Organiser position we have 7 aspirants; 6 males and 1 female, the Deputy National Organiser position we have 9 aspirants; 8 males and 1 female and for the National Communication position there are two aspirants and they are all male.”

He said 6 male aspirants are contesting for the Deputy National Communication position whereas 8 aspirants are contesting for National Executive Committee Membership position; they are 7 males and a female.

“For the National Zongo Caucus Coordinator, we have 6 aspirants all of whom are male” he stressed.



Outlining the activities for the day, Mr Segbefia said “For this particular Congress, it’s going to be in two parts; the opening ceremony, reports from the chairman, general secretary and comments from party members and well-wishers as well as constitutional reviews will be the first part of the event. Once that is over, we shall move straight into the election process for new executives of the party.”

Mr Segbefia said all media houses must first register at a media village before they can be allowed to enter the event hall.

“Only accredited media houses and personnel will be registered. Risers will be made available and only those with camera tags will be allowed to fix their camera stands on the riser. Security personnel will not tolerate media person without accreditation in the area reserved for media personnel,” he warned.
