The leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) pledged to establish a "Heroes Fund" for the party to cater for the needs of their members and supporters.

The fund was to take care of NDC loyalists who encounter misfortunes or become incapacitated while working for the party.

It was launched in 2011 and registered as a non-governmental organization to be governed by a seven member board of trustees.

Eight years down the line, it has become necessary for a probe into the functionality of the Heroes Fund by the NDC.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with host Nana Yaw Kesseh on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" on Thursday, aspiring Presidential candidate for the NDC, Ekwow Spio Garbrah lambasted the leadership of the party saying they have collapsed the initiative.

The initiative perceived be a good one, according to Spio Garbrah, has hit the rocks due to "bad management".

"....the fund is now a white elephant, its a mirage...it has not worked. It has collapsed because of bad management as usual. It does not exist. We created it but it didn’t work," he added.

In light of this, the NDC Presidential Hopeful noted that he would set up a "Welfare Fund" to replace the "Heroes Fund" when voted by the delegates to lead the party to victory, come 2020.

The welfare fund, he expounded, will be aimed at "supporting and providing health, economic, social and other benefits to the underprivileged" members and supporters of the NDC to "cushion" them in their life journey.
