Apam, Dec 17, GNA - The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Campaign Manager for Gomoa West, Mr Kobina Eshun, has stated that the electorate changed the incumbent MP in the December 7 2004 election because the area lagged behind in the provision social amenities.
He said for about 12 years the area was virtually deprived of social and economic development because it lacked positive leadership, which made the people to vote for a new person and the NPP to represent their interest in Parliament.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview at Apam after a victory rally, Mr Eshun noted that the defeated incumbent MP who was popular on radio and television was beaten with about 11,000 votes and said the feat was achieved through the hard work and dedication of the NPP campaign team.
He stated that the electorate had confidence in President Kufuor and the NPP, which made them to vote massively to return the government for a second term to improve their living standard.
Mr Eshun who is also the Special Assistant to the MP-elect, Mr Joe Hackman, promised that under the leadership of the NPP, Gomoa West would see "positive development and progress".
He said the new MP had held consultations with agencies and investors in America, Germany, Holland and United Kingdom to establish businesses in the area to create jobs especially for the unemployed youth.
Mr Hackman had also held discussions with consultants in Holland to help find a solution to the annual problem of floods at Apam, which had affected the salt industry in the area and rendered some citizens homeless.
The Campaign Manager gave the assurance that the MP-elect would honour all promises he made during the electioneering campaign.
He expressed appreciation to the chiefs and the people of the constituency for the confidence reposed in President John Agyekum Kufuor, Mr Hackman and the NPP and asked them to rally behind the government to ensure development and improvement in their lives.
