‘NDC’s withdrawal from Ayawaso election not out of cowardice’ - Inter-Party Coalition

NDC’s decision to withdraw its candidate, Mr Delali Kwasi Brempong, from the just ended Ayawaso West Wuogon race is not an act of cowardice, the Coalition of Inter-Party and National Sovereignty has stated.

The failure to contest that particular seat, according to them, was out of caution and restraint following the shooting incident and an assault on its members.

It was alleged that eight members of the National Democratic Congress were injured with two of them in critical condition after some members of a security unit stormed the La Bawalashie Presby polling station to intimidate their (NDC) agents.

In relation to that, Chairman for the People’s National Congress and convener for Inter-Party Coalition, Benard Monarh, expressed disgust at what he described as “the unlawful use of state powers to visit terror on the innocent” by president Akufo-Addo and “his goons”.

Speaking at a press briefing held by the Coalition in Accra, Mr Monarh said the NDC could have equally dealt with the armed men but rather chose the stability of Ghana over narrow political interests.

He added that in future, the opposition party would not tolerate any repeat of ‘temper tantrums’ as they are not in any way intimidated by any force.

“The NDC’s decision to withdraw from the electoral process was out of cowardice. If it is knife he wants, we shall oblige him to the hilt. He and his cabal amateurs know this too well and are right to be afraid. This is no threat, it’s a promise’’. He fumed.

He went on further to express condolences on behalf of the party to victims who were involved in yesterday’s incident.
