Agona Swedru, Jan 1, GNA - Mr Daniel Addae, a leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa District has supported the resolution of the District Assembly to President J A Kufuor to consider re- appoint Mr Sampson Kwame Anfako, District Chief Executive (DCE) for a second term.
He stated that since the appointment of the DCE four years ago, the District had seen development in all areas including education, health, sanitation, water and commerce.
Speaking to the GNA, Mr Addae noted that apart from infrastructure developments the people had enjoyed "absolute peace and unity". He said the DCE had created personal and administrative relationships with the chiefs, opinion leaders and citizens of the area.
Mr Addae who is the Assemblyman for Awuna/Fante/New Town Electoral Area in Kumasi, said the people in the District were witnesses of the development projects executed by the government in the last four years. He explained that these could not be possible without the prudent management of Mr Anfako who also contributed in no small way to the increase in the number of NPP members in the District.
He pointed out that even though the party performed poorly in the 1996 and won the 2000 general elections with a slim margin it swept the Dec 7,2004 polls.
The NPP member noted that there was absolute peace in the District Assembly, which led to the re-election of the Presiding Member, Nana Kweku Adu Twum II, unopposed at its third sitting at Asikuma. The District has been hooked to the INTERNET while Spacefon had extended its telecommunication system to the area through Mr Anfako's efforts, Mr Addae said and expressed the hope that the President would reappoint the DCE to continue efforts towards the development and poverty reduction in the area.
He stated that he believed that when the DCE was given another four year-term in office, "the people will taste real NPP Positive Change Chapter II", to improve the socio-economic advancement of the country. Mr Addae said through the effort of the DCE, about 86 teacher trainees were being sponsored by the District Assembly to solve the problem of lack of qualified teachers for basic schools in the District. He said the DCE had initiated moves to create employment for the youth adding that the youth would be encouraged with financial support to move into farming and other businesses to reduce poverty.
