Kintampo (B/A), March 24, GNA - Mr. Stephen Kunsu, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Kintampo North Constituency, is to embark on a two-week tour of his constituency to interact with his people and know the needs of the communities to plan strategies to address them to enhance the development of the constituency.

Mr. Kunsu was briefing the Ghana News Agency (GNA) about the programme and activities he had outlined within his Easter recess at Kintampo on Monday.

He said the tour would also offer him the opportunity to express his gratitude to the electorate for giving him their mandate to go to Parliament and to assist in the development of the area.

The MP would promote education, health and sanitation among the people to enable them to improve upon their living standards. Mr. Kunsu expressed concern about the low enrolment in some schools in his area as a number of children of school-going age had not been enrolled as a result of the poverty of their parents.

Mr. Kunsu announced his plans to solicit assistance from Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) to obtain some income to provide the necessary basic school needs such as uniform and stationery for needy children in the communities and to ensure that they were enrolled in the schools.

He would liaise with the Kintampo District Assembly to assist in employing voluntary teachers to serve in the most deprived and rural communities and he would support them with some funds from his share of the common fund to promote education in the areas.

He said he would also provide boreholes for the communities, which lack potable drinking water to prevent them from contracting water-borne diseases.

He stressed the need for the people in the constituency to register with the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to provide the needed security for themselves if they should fall ill.

Mr. Kunsu deplored the high cost of funerals in Kintampo and said he had decided to sit down with the assembly members to discuss strategies that could be drawn to control the cost in order that the more resources could be saved to support their children's education. Mr. Kunsu called on the government to consider developing Kintampo into a modern town to befit its status as the centre of Ghana and a tourist centre.
