A chief stalwart of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Afrifa Yamoah Ponkoh has described as shameful and worrying in his view, the neglect and infrastructure deficit in the Ashanti Region (A/R) by the Akufo-Addo led administration, Mypurefmonline.com reports.
Speaking on Pure FM's 'Pure Morning Drive' with Kwame Adinkra on the aftermath of the President’s tour of the A/R, the former Municipal Chief of Ejisu Juabeng stated that the President only brought a bad omen to the region as he has no respect for the people of the region nor the ‘Ashantis’ who voted massively for him into power.
In explaining, he indicated that he was shocked at the unprecedented votes the President bagged from the region in the last 2016 general elections and was confident that the region would be rewarded with huge infrastructure investments but the opposite is being realized.
“Nana Akufo-Addo has no respect for Ashantis. He does not regard the people of Ashanti and the entire Asanteman. Look at the bad road networks in the region. This is shameful.”
Meanwhile, the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, in his just ended tour of the A/R has tasked the various contractors working on the several road and infrastructural projects in the Kumasi Metropolis to ensure they are completed on time.
Visiting several project sites on Wednesday, 10th September, 2019, at the commencement of his 3-day tour of the Region, President Akufo-Addo noted that the timely completion of these road projects will not only enhance the status of Kumasi as Ghana’s 2nd largest city, but also establish it as a major and strategic business destination in West Africa.
The President’s first port of call was at Atonsu, in the Asokwa constituency, where he inspected works on the Kumasi Drainage and Roads Extension Project.
President Akufo-Addo also inspected work on the Lake Side Road. According to the contractor on site, the project is expected to be completed by March 2020 for commissioning by the President.
He again inspected works on the Aboabo to Airport Roundabout road, and interacted with residents of Asawase, where he assured them that the promises he made to them in the run up to the December 2016 elections, will be fulfilled before the 2020 elections.
