The Majority in Ghana’s Parliament has warned NDC MPs against excessive heckling of president Akufo-Addo as he delivers his final state of the nation address.

Speaking to Starr News, deputy majority whip Moses Anim, argued that the president must be given the space to clearly communicate with Ghanaians about the state of the nation.

“There is an acceptable level of heckling in every parliament…it is when we overdo it and excessively it becomes counter-productive and becomes nuisance…placards, for example, is not acceptable in the chamber and we will continue to press on our members not to do it,” Mr Anim told Starr FM’s Parliamentary correspondent Ibrahim Alhassan.

President Akufo-Addo will on Thursday, February 20, address parliament to give an account of the current state of the nation.

The delivery of the 2020 State of the Nation Address is in accordance with Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana and the Standing Orders of the Parliament of Ghana.

Article 67 of the Constitution states that “The President shall, at the beginning of each session of Parliament and before a dissolution of Parliament, deliver to Parliament a message on the State of the Nation”.
