MPs advised against partisan considerations when debating

Kumasi, Sept 29, GNA - A New Patriotic Party (NPP) activist on Thursday appealed to members of parliament to do away with partisan considerations when discussing issues of national importance. Mr Ampofoh Twumasi said this was crucial because lawmakers were not in parliament to promote the agenda of their parties but to enact laws to promote national security and economic development. The appeal was contained in a statement Mr Twumasi issued in Kumasi.

''Until parliamentarians resolve to be objective on the floor of the house, it will be difficult to accelerate the pace of the country's democracy.''

He said even though members of parliament are elected on party lines, once they assume office, they represent the interests of all their constituents irrespective of their political leanings.
