Minister of Comunication
A former Minister of Information under the government of late President Professor John Evans Atta-Mills, Zita Benson (formerly Zita Sabah Okaikoi ) has called out Minister of Communications Ursula Owusu-Ekuful for being disrespectful to Ghanaians in her utterances, wondering when she will be considerate and kind in her tone when addressing Ghanaians.
Ms Benson’s criticism follows an accident that happened yesterday at the Dansoman Zodiac MTN Office in Accra, where Ms Owusu-Ekuful gave a thorough dressing down to MTN customers who were not observing social distancing while seated at the office waiting for their turn to go into the office and access services of the telecommunications giant, MTN.
The Minister who was passing by the office immediately pulled up and approached the customers with unmistakable frustration and anger. She then addressed the clients in Twi, wondering, among others, whether whatever they had come to the office to do was more important than their health such that they felt comfortable to ignore the protocols even though government had drummed messages on the pandemic on several occasions.
The manager of the office, fumbling to explain himself, was not spared as the Minister scolded him for allowing the customers to willfully disregard the social distancing protocol.
She then shut down the branch.
But reacting on social media, Ms Benson wrote: “Our landlady that, addressing her tenants. Yoo n3 ye shieeeee.! When will she learn to address people with respect and in a kind tone? Who is she fighting? Manager had his hands behind his back like a school boy talking to his principal. Ah well, arrogance of power at play. And she used her power to shut them down too. Meanwhile others have praised her for being proactive in shutting down the branch.
MTN Ghana has indicated that it is taking the necessary steps to resolve the matter and reopen the branch.
