Nana Fredua Agyeman Ofori-Atta, a parliamentary aspirant of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the Okaikoi South Constituency has said he does not use President Nana Akufo-Addo’s name in his campaign despite being a relative of his.

The Board Chairman of the National Theatre told Kwabena Prah Jr on Accra100.5FM’s Ghana Yensom morning show on Wednesday, 10 June 2020 that he believes in establishing himself firmly through his works rather than ingratiating himself with the President.

He also denied claims that the President deals with people selectively and discriminately based on his family ties or friendship with those people.

“I don’t believe that governance is a family thing”, Nana Fredua Ofori-Atta said, adding: “President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is not as discriminatory and nepotistic as people portray him to be at all”.

The President, he insisted, “doesn’t discriminate based on familial or friendship ties”.

According to him, the President always wants people to prove themselves, no matter who they.

“I don’t even use President Akufo-Addo’s name to campaign. I have to establish myself. And that’s the kind of stuff President Akufo-Addo respects”, Nana Fredua Ofori-Atta told The Don.

“And I have a lot of relatives in politics since time immemorial. It didn’t start today. So, that bit shouldn’t be lost on people as well. Every family is gifted with something – some are good at trading; others are good at teaching. One thing that my family is blessed with is being good at the law. It’s not a bad thing, it is the blessing of God”, he said.

In January this year, Mr Ofori-Atta picked nomination forms to contest the primaries in Okaikoi South.

Nana Fredua Agyeman Ofori-Atta said he had served the party since its inception in 1992 and it was time he contested as a parliamentary candidate for the party.

“I have also been actively involved in politics in this constituency and right now, I think it’s about time we opened up the system to involve everybody. I have an idea about how things should go and I’m proposing a more dynamic, exciting and involving system which is far better than what we are experiencing,” Nana Ofori-Atta added.
