Member of Parliament for Sekondi, Lawyer Andrew Egyapa Mercer, has described Monday’s press conference by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as an exercise in intellectual dishonesty.

According to the law maker, although the assessment of a party’s manifesto is not new, the approach by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) should have been honest, sincere, candid and not twist facts and use deceit to discredit the works of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

This statement by the lawmaker comes after the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, addressing the media at the NDC’s weekly press briefing on the theme; NPP 2016 Manifesto in Perspective: Claims, Deception and Reality, scored the NPP 14% in terms of fulfilling campaign promises.

Per the NDC’s research, ruling the government made 631 manifesto promises, not 388 as earlier touted by the Vice President.

Ablakwa indicated that the cumulative performance of the ruling government in achieving its promises rather hovers around 14% not 78%.

“We have discovered that the 631 promises that we listed, after thorough analysis, combing through documents, what they’ve told us in Parliament, ladies and gentleman, it will shock you to realize that only 86 out of this 631 promise that has been delivered. So the percentage achieved is 14%, not 78%,” he added.

Speaking on Atinka FM’s AM Drive with host Ekourba Gyasi, Member of Parliament for Secondi, Lawyer Andrew Egyapa Mercer said it was unfortunate that the NDC have left the real substance of the conversation and were peddling lies at the press conference they held.

“I am not against the exercise the NDC did; it’s not something I do not encourage, but in doing so, you have to be honest, sincere, candid not twist and deceive the public. And yesterday what the NDC did, I won’t mince words. It was an exercise in intellectual dishonesty and its unfortunate that a political party which seeks to recapture power wants to do so through lies and deceit”, he added.

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has launched a website, www.nppfailedpromises.com to track the promises of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government which they have failed to fulfill.
