Takoradi, Sept 18, GNA - Mr Philip Fiifi Buckman, 35, a final year student of the Ghana Law School has declare his intention to contest the Effia-Kwesiminstim seat as an independent candidate. He said he wanted to contest the seat to ensure that education became the priority of the people in the area. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview in Takoradi on Thursday, Mr Buckman said he believed in participatory democracy where the political head met with the people and discussed issues that affected them to help find solutions to them. According to him the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) in the area had done his best but the effective participatory of the people had been relegated to the background. "I am not contesting the MP, but the seat", he stressed. Mr Buckman said when voted into power, he would dedicate part of his car loan as seed money for the establishment of the Effia-Kwesiministim Education Fund adding "education is my priority, education is everything". He said a monthly meeting programme would be instituted to discuss issues of particular interest with all stakeholders in the constituency. "These meetings will not be a partisan affair but will be for the sharing of ideas, hopes and aspirations of the entire constituency. He said he would launch his campaign and manifesto early next month. Mr Buckman holds a first degree in Political Science and is presently pursuing his law course at the University of Ghana. He was born and bred in the Sekondi/Takoradi Metropolis and has taught in his alma mater, Takoradi Senior High School for seven years.
