1,102 refugees register in Brong Ahafo Region

Berekum (B/A) Sept. 13, GNA - A total of 1,102 Ivorian refugees who fled the bloody political conflict in their country, have settled in Brong Ahafo Region, since May this year.

Nana Osei Asiedu, Regional Co-ordinating Director of National Disaster Management Organisation, disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency in an interview at Berekum at the opening of a three-day "Psychosocial Counselling", workshop organised by ActionAid Ghana; a non-governmental organisation, for 40 of the refugees based at Fetentaa, near Berekum.

Six hundred and fourteen of them are also based at the Fententaa camp. The districts of origin of the refugees comprising 993 Christians, 29 Muslims and other religious denominations, 69, include Abidjan, Tanda, Soubre, Agboville, Abengourou, Divo, Yamoussoukro, Doukoue, Ferkessendougou, Bondougou and Grand-Labour.

Some of the refugees have been settled in camps while others are putting up with friends.

Nana Asiedu some of the Ivorians could be located at Sunyani, Drobo, Atuna and Berekum communities.

He said a tent has been erected at the Fetentaa Camp to serve as a temporary classroom for the refugees who are of school- going age. Officials of the United Nations are supporting the upkeep of the refugees.
