10 Teachers awarded on Independence Day

Mampong-Ash, March 10 GNA - Ten Teaching and Non-teaching Staff in the Sekyere West District of Ashanti have been honoured for their dedicated services to mark the 47th Celebration of Ghana's Independence at Asante Mampong.

The award jointly organised by the Sekyere West District Assembly and the District Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES) covered the year 2002 to 2004.

Madam Hannah Serwaah of Mampong Campus of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) Practice School and Gladys Brefo of Nsuta Presbyterian School were adjudged the best Primary School Teachers for the year 2002 and 2003 respectively.

The best Junior Secondary School Teacher award for 2002 went to Mr. Yaw Mensah of Asaam L/A, while that for the year 2003 went to Mr. John Ofosu of St. Monica's Junior Secondary School, Mampong. The price for best Primary School Science Teacher for the year 2002 went to Miss Joyce Amoah Bonsu of Krobo Methodist Primary with that for the year 2003 going to Mr. Patrick Agyei of Kyeremafaso Anglican Primary.

The award for the best non-teaching staff for the year was won by Mr. Kwasi Obeng of Amaniampong Secondary School with Miss Ellen Amoah of Mampong Teacher's Technical College taking that of year 2002. They were each presented with a colour Television and a Certificate.

Other prices including bicycles and radio cassette recorders were given to other award winners who placed second and third in the various categories for their dedication to duty. Mr. Thomas Edward Atakorah the DCE who read the President's address expressed the hope that the award will help to motivate the teachers to give off their best.

He appealed to the teachers to teach in a way that would make the students to think "straight".
