Government has completed 100 boreholes in12 districts of the Ashanti Region.
The beneficiary districts include Offinso North and Offinso South, Atwima-Mponua, Ejura-Sekyedumasi, Ejusu-Juaben, Ahafo-Ano North and Ahafo-Ano South, Sekyere-East, Bosome-Freho, Sekyere-Kumawu and Sekyere-Afram Plains.
Mr Johnson Appiah, Acting Regional Director of the Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA) announced this in an interview Ghana News Agency in Kumasi.
He said an additional 100 boreholes would be sunk in 17 other districts within the year.
The goal, he said is to ensure that every community with a population between 75 and 50000 is provided with a borehole.
He said presently, about 72 per cent of the people in the Region have access to safe drinking water.
Mr Appiah reminded the beneficiaries to show ownership to the boreholes by taking good care of them.
He spoke of plans to set up committees to oversee the management and maintenance of the boreholes.
