120 kerosene tanks for rural communities in the North

The GRATIS Foundation, through its Intermediate Technology Transfer Centres (ITTC) in northern Ghana, is manufacturing 120 tanks for rural kerosene distribution outlets in the three northern regions.

Under the scheme, initiated and financed by the Ministry of Energy, 65 tanks had been earmarked for the Northern Region, while the Upper East and Upper West Regions would be allocated 30 and 25 tanks respectively.

Mr Peter Adasi, Regional Manager ITTC office the Wa, told the GNA that the centres at Tamale, Bolgatanga and Wa had been contracted to manufacture 40 tanks each.

Mr Adasi said the Wa Centre had finished its job at a cost of 200 million cedis.

He said the tanks had been calibrated by the Ghana Standards Board, awaiting distribution to the regional co-ordinating councils for onward delivery to the district assemblies.

The Wa ITTC is also building a number of processing equipment for the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs for distribution to women groups in the three northern regions by April.

The machines included 25 sheabutter kneaders, five groundnut roasters, 10 sheanut crushers and 15 groundnut kneaders.
