One hundred and seventy-four families have been rendered homeless in the Savelugu municipality of the Northern Region following a heavy downpour last week Wednesday, June 1.

About 1,000 residents in the area were affected during the rainstorm that lasted almost two hours.

Some families who spoke to DAILY GUIDE indicated that they were being sheltered by relatives and friends.

Information also gathered by the paper indicated that six basic schools namely, Nabogo, Duko, Nyoglo, Kpayilli Zahariya, Dinguni and the Savelugu Senior High were also affected by the rains.

Some classes have since been combined for teaching and learning to continue.

Speaking to DAILY GUIDE, Abdulai Alhassan Red, Municipal Chief Executive of Savelugu and National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) officials went round to inspect the affected areas to ascertain the extent of damage caused.

He maintained that the assembly was constrained in fixing the damages caused to all the affected schools and the families.

Mr Alhassan Red appealed to the government, philanthropists, institutions, organizations and individuals to come to the aid of the affected families and the schools as well.
