2015 ICT Clinic for Girls ends in Tamale

Thirty girls selected from various basic schools in the Northern Region, have undergone training in information and communication technology (ICT) as part of efforts to promote female participation in ICT.

The beneficiaries received training on ICT’s in education, the importance of ICT and science, technology, engineering and mathematics related courses to girls.

The week-long training dubbed: “2015 ICT Clinic for Girls,” held in Tamale, was organised by Savana Signatures, an ICT-focused non-governmental organisation (NGO) with sponsorship from IBIS Ghana, an NGO, and Barclays Bank.

Mr Stephen Agbenyo, Executive Director of Savana Signatures, whose speech was read on his behalf during the closing session of the training, urged the beneficiaries to put the knowledge gained into constant practice as well as share it with their school mates to ensure that a lot more girls benefit from the training.

The 2015 ICT Clinic for Girls was the fourth in the series since its inception in 2011.

Mr Agbenyo called on other organisations to join hands with Savana Signatures to provide ICT education to pupils.

The ICT training helped build the confidence of the participants leaving a great impact on their lives for a long time.

Mr Alhassan Seibu, Regional Coordinator of ICT at the Regional Directorate of Education, who represented the Regional Director of Education, commended Savana Signatures for the initiative and urged other organisations to support it to ensure that many girls are covered.

Miss Erica Abugre, a pupil from Pong-Tamale Municipal Assembly Junior High School, who made a presentation on behalf of the participants, lauded the initiative and called for its expansion to enable more girls to benefit.

Awards were presented to the participants to motivate them to excel in ICT related courses.
