Mrs. Matilda Amissah-Arthur
The Wife of the Vice President, Mrs. Matilda Amissah-Arthur, has called on school children in the country to take advantage of educational opportunities that abound in their areas seriously in order for them to become future leaders, because education is critical and key in nation building.
Mrs. Amissah-Arthur gave the advice on Wednesday 16th June 2015 as part of her educational reform agenda by encouraging school children to read, when she donated educational materials to the Afranse D A Basic School and the Pomadze D A Basic School in Gomoa Central District of the Central Region.
The items included 10 laptops and an undisclosed number of story books, text books, exercise books, to support teaching and learning in the area.
Mrs. Amissah Arthur advised the pupils not to allow deprivation to be an obstacle to their education and put in extra effort in learning in order to help add value to their lives.
She urged the pupils to cultivate the habit of reading, saying “as you read, you learn good values and principles, which can help you, go far”.
She encouraged them to see themselves as the future leaders and use the opportunities at their doorsteps to learn hard and dream big must also be disciplined truthful, honest in order for them to become responsible and better citizens in the near future.
The Second Lady advised parents, whether educated or uneducated to pay attention to the children of their education, adding that the only way to secure a better future for their children is through education.
Mrs Amissah Arthur noted that committing the books to effective use to achieve results is the only way that could motivate her to bring more when the old ones get worn-out.
She praised the teachers in the various schools for the work that they are doing and asked them to ensure that the students use the books and computers The Member of Parliament of area Mrs. Nana Adwoa Apoh on her part thanked the wife of the Vice President for her continuous gesture in the area of education and adding her area to it.
She also praised the headmaster, teachers and pupils of the two schools for their continuous hard work in the area of education and also always making the municipality very proud, adding already the area has benefited from a lot of development projects and that government continue more infrastructure projects to benefit the area.
Earlier on the Second Lady together with the regional minister Hon Paul Evan Aidoo visited the Shama SHS to acquaint themselves with the patronage of pupils sitting for this year’s BECE examination which is going on in the country.
