Commercial drivers at the 37 lorry station are unhappy with the apparent delay in completing the rehabilitation works at the lorry park.

The drivers who have been forced by the rehabilitation works to use the streets in the area, say the delay is affecting their earnings.

Kwaku Frimpong is the Vice Chairman of the 37 drivers union. He told the dailyEXPRESS that his outfit welcomes the on-going exercise but the delay is making things difficult for them.

He said passengers in the past have always found it difficult to access the lorry park anytime it rains and that was why they were excited about the rehabilitation works.

Mr. Frimpong who had no idea when the exercise will be completed told the dailyEXPRESS that their current situation is also endangering the lives of both drivers and passengers, who could easily be hit by an approaching vehicle.

When the dailyEXPRESS sought a clarification from the contractor via telephone, he rudely banged the phone on this reporter screaming, “you did not award me any contract so you better still check from the city authorities.”

This paper has meanwhile observed that the first phase of the project is nearing completion with the drainage systems and waste bin collectors left to be provided.

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly is said to be contemplating an increase in the daily toll from five thousand to six thousand cedis, but the drivers have kicked against it because their current location does not warrant any increase in the tolls.
