Asankrangwa (W/R), August 22, GNA - More than 40 communities in the Wassa Amenfi District have benefited from the Wassa Amenfi Students Union (WASU)'s voluntary teaching and career guidance programme. About 110 members of the Union participated in the programme, which is aimed at promoting education, especially among the youth.
The Group also donated textbooks on various subjects, worth two million Cedis to schools in the area.
Mr Tony Bimpong, President of WASU, who announced this at a ceremony to round off this year's WASU voluntary programme at Asankrangwa on Friday, said the Union would establish three Computer training centres in selected communities in the district.
He said the Union has also initiated a programme to preparing students for the Senior Secondary School Certificate private Examinations in core mathematics, English Language and integrated science.
Mr Tony Bimpong said the district lacked adequate number of teachers adding that this year only 52 teachers were posted to the area even though the district education directorate requested for 200 teachers. Mr Alberto Terkyi, Wassa Amenfi District Chief Executive, commended WASU for contributing to the development of education in the area.
