450 million-cedi JSS block inaugurated at Atwima Akropong

Akropong (Ash), Oct 12, GNA - Mr Thomas Ofori-Donkor, Atwima Nwabiagya District Chief Executive, on Tuesday inaugurated a 450 million-cedi Junior Secondary School (JSS) block funded by the Ministry of Education for residents of Atwima Akropong. Initiated in 2003 by Mr James Adusei-Sarkodie, the former MP for Nwabiagya, the block consists of three classrooms, a library, a staff common room, an office, store and an eight-seater KVIP latrine. Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Ofori-Donkor said, the District Assembly would provide teachers' living accommodation in most of the 69 communities in the District.

The assembly, he said, would provide adequate building materials to rehabilitate the dilapidated Akropong Roman Catholic Primary School block and advised the residents to provide sand and labour. The DCE advised communities to cultivate the culture of maintenance and not to wait for infrastructure to become dilapidated to clamour for new ones. He commended Mr Adusei-Sarkodie for his initiative and advised teachers to continue sacrificing and strive to improve their performance.

Mr Adusei-Sarkodie explained that, the JSS block was built at Akropong to express his appreciation to the residents for supporting him and the government.

He promised to donate computers and accessories to the school to promote information technology in the area. Mr Eddy Obeng-Darko, District Director of Education, explained that, registration fees for this year's Basic Certificate Examination (BECE) were not included in the government's Capitation Grant. Nana Appiah Sarfo Kantanka 11, Akroponghene advised the people from defecting in classrooms and urged the culprits to stop. The DCE earlier distributed exercise books to pupils of Manhyia and Akropong basic schools.
