498 million cedi school project commissioned at Aklamado

Aklamado (V/R), March 1, GNA - A three unit Kindergarten block with five seater KVIP at a cost of 498 million cedis was on Saturday commissioned at Maafi Aklamado, in the North Tongu District of the Volta Region.

The project was executed by students from the school and the SOS Herman Gmeiner International College, in Tema who went to stay at Aklamador until the completion of the project with funding from Norway SOS School.

According to the Head of the Norwegian SOS, Mr Tor Nakstad, the school organised a "Ghana Day" in Norway and raised funds for the project.

He said education was very important to development and stressed the need for parents to give their children good education. The North Tongu District Director of Education, Mr Albert Darkey-Sekpey, said there was the need for partnership between all stakeholders to facilitate teaching and learning and advised parents to provide their children with their educational needs.

A Board member of SOS, Ghana, Mr Ebenezer Sedufia who commissioned the project commended the Norwegian group for supporting education in Ghana.

He reminded parents "investing in your children's education is not for your benefit alone but for the whole nation" and urged the people maintain the facility so that its lifespan could last.

The North Tongu Disctrict Chief Executive, Mr Nicholas Ahiadome, expressed regretted that many able bodied people had left the North Tongu District to find greener pastures because it was a deprived area. He expressed the hope that with the provision of the facility, parents would be encourage to send their children especially the girls to school.
