Nankesido (C/R), Oct 20, GNA - Nana Baa VII, Chief of Nankesido, also known as Saltpond Lower Town, is 50 years on the stool. To commemorate this great achievement, the people are constructing a multi-purpose shed at a place called "Oman Hyia Baa" to provide shelter for the people who gather there for social activities and funerals.
The shed, estimated at GH¢30,000 would also serve as a recreational centre where people would go and relax after the day's work.
It is being funded with donations solicited from some prominent citizens and friends in the town.
Launching the celebration of the anniversary, christened "The Royal Golden Jubilee", Nana Anyensah I, Sanahen of the Nyimfa Division of Nkusukum Traditional Area, urged the citizens to be happy because it was no mean achievement to have a chief on the stool for 50 years. Nana Anyensah said it required a man with a great heart, who is also God-fearing to rule for 50 years as chieftaincy in most parts of the country is bedevilled with problems.
He appealed to Ghanaians to give their chiefs peace and also support them to develop their communities.
Nana Baa expressed gratitude to the people for their cooperation which had made him the longest reigning chief on the Nankesido stool, as the records have it.
He expressed grateful to Nana Anyensah, who is Chairman of the Anniversary Planning Committee, for the immense contributions he had made towards the construction of the shed, and other members of the committee for their commitment. The Royal Golden Jubilee celebration is slated on 30th October, 2010 to coincide with the annual "Ayerye" festival of the town. 20 Oct 10
