6-year-old disabled twin orphans live in abject poverty

6-year-old Atsu and Este Kaize live in abject poverty after the death of their parents five years ago.

The boys who live with their maternal uncle, Kwame Kaize in Kasoa a town in the Central Region are trading their childhood to survive.

Atsu and Este struggle for space to sleep each night as they share a room with their uncle and his wife and their five kids.

Unfortunately for Atsu, at age 6, he is yet to take his first step.

“We have taken him to the hospital severally but to no avail, the doctors say there is nothing wrong with him but he still has not been able to walk,” the Uncle said.

The boys who lost their father before their birth and their mother a year after their birth have not known happiness in life.

The mere look at the boys reveal how malnourished and exposed they are to all kinds of skin diseases as their uncle who is a fisherman cannot do much with his little income.

“I am a fisherman, there is little I can do with my income especially with Atsu’s situation, I am burdened with the cost of taking care of my five kids, the twins and my wife, and it has not been easy,” he said.

According to him, his wife has dedicated her life to take care of Atsu as he needs assistance in his movement, he is virtually a vegetable.

“We have to carry him everywhere, to bath him, clean him when he wants to attend to natures call and a whole lot” he added.

Speaking to Crime Check Foundation, Abena Kekeli, the school teacher of Este said, the Kindergarten 1 boy shows brilliance in school thus her reason for following up with his frequent absence from school.

“Este is the youngest of the twin and he is my student, a very brilliant boy and so I decided to follow up on his frequent absence from school and I was hate with his reality, his twin brother has not been able to walk,” she said

Crime Check Foundation is pleading with the general public to come to the aid of Este and Atsu as their uncle cannot help much with their current situation.
