60-year-old man nearly killed at Tamso

A sixty-year-old man narrowly escaped death when he was knocked down by a Pontiac Vibe Saloon car with registration GW 2483-15 around Tamso in the Tarkwa-Nsueam Municipality.

The victim, Edward Cudjoe, sustained severe injuries and was rushed to the Apinto Government Hospital, where he is currently on admission and receiving treatment.

An investigator at the Tarkwa Motor Transport and Traffic Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service, Chief Inspector George Kwabena Osei, confirmed the accident to the Ghana News Agency.

He said, on Wednesday, at about 1830 hours, the suspected driver, Isaac Bennah, 40 years, reported the incident at the Tarkwa police station on the same day at about 1630 hours.

According to the police, Bennah was driving the car from Tamso to Nsuta and upon reaching a section of the road near Church of Pentecost, knocked down the victim.

Chief Inspector Osei said the driver was arrested and the vehicle impounded and kept at the Tarkwa police station for further investigations.

In a related development, a Kia Rhino truck with registration number GN 3781-11 conveying sodium chloride rammed into a fruit and vegetable stall on the pedestrian walkway around Sag Junction.

According to an eye witness, the driver in charge of the vehicle, James Owuh, 35, had a brake failure, while descending the post office hill to enter the Tarkwa-Takoradi Highway.

No casualty was recorded and the suspected driver is in police custody for further investigations.
