Oyoko (E/R), Oct. 16, GNA - A 600-million-cedi community centre constructed by the Chiefs and people of Oyoko, near Koforidua with the support of the Chinese Government and the Member of Parliament (MP), New Juaben North, Mr Hackman Owusu-Agyeman was inaugurated on Friday. In recognition of the role of the MP towards the construction of the centre, the Oyokohene, Nana Kondua Kesse named the centre after the MP, Hackman Social Centre.
Speaking at the function, Mr Owusu-Agyeman thanked the Chinese Government for her support towards the construction of the centre. He said the Chinese Government supported Africa during the struggle for political independence and now that Africa is struggling for economic independence, China is still providing the needed support. Mr Owusu-Agyeman observed that all over Africa, one could see large amount of monuments constructed by the Chinese Government to support the development of the continent.
He thanked all those who contributed in diverse ways towards the construction of the Centre and donated 100 plastic chairs, ludu games and draught games to the centre.
The Chinese Ambassador, Mr Zhang-Ke Yuan said the relationship between Ghana and his country dates back to 1960 and expressed the hope that the community centre would contribute to the cultural development of Oyoko. He expressed the hope that the community centre would be a symbol of the relationship between China and Ghana.
The New Juaben Municipal Chief Executive, Nana Kwesi Adjei-Boateng said, for the three and half years that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Government assumed office, a lot of development projects had been completed in the Oyoko township. He mentioned the construction of the new blocks for the Oyoko Methodist Agricultural Senior Secondary School, a community library and nurses quarters.
Nana Adjei-Boateng said the Oyoko town road had been awarded on contract and is expected to be completed before the end of the year. In the Chairman's closing remarks, Daasebre Dr Oti Boateng announced that the nine-year chieftaincy dispute between the Oyokohene and the Queenmother had been settled.
