A 75-year-old woman was on Wednesday knocked down and killed by a vehicle at Mprim near Asante-Mampong on the Kumasi-Ejura highway.
The deceased, Madam Hannah Pomaah, was walking on the shoulder of the road, when a Mitsubishi Lancer salon car, run into her.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Benjamin Kwadwo Gyasi, the Asante-Mampong Divisional Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU), who confirmed the incident to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), said it happened at about 1530 hours.
The driver was said to have lost control of the steering wheel as a result of a mechanical fault and in the process, the vehicle run into the deceased who died while being conveyed to the hospital.
The driver, John Owusu Darkwah, has been arrested and is assisting the police in investigations.
Meanwhile, the body of the deceased had been deposited at the Asante-Mampong Government Hospital mortuary for autopsy.
