800 Bags Of Flour Meant For Cape Coast Cannot Be Traced

Officials of the Tema Regional Crime Office have arraigned before circuit court, a 40-year-old transport operator to assist them to trace 800 bags of flour which he was contracted to cart to Cape Coast in the second week of April, 2003.

Prosper Quarshie whose plea was not taken has been remanded and will re-appear on May 2.

Chief Inspector Nutakor told the court that on April 7, Quarshie approached the transport officer at Ghana Agro Foods Company (GAFCO) and introduced himself as a transport operator with some trucks who wanted assistance to cart goods for the company. She said the following day Quarshie brought a Benz truck with registration number GT 5247 T and was loaded with 800 bags of flour valued at about 167 million cedis at the GAFCO to transport to Cape Coast.

Inspector Nutakor said after some days information reached the company that the vehicle and the flour could not be traced. A report was made to the police who arrested Quarshie but the flour had not been traced. Quarshie claimed the vehicle broke down in Accra and alleged that he reported to the company who sent a written note to him to allow another vehicle to cart the flour to Cape Coast.

He could not produce the note and the waybill that covered the consignment.
