Afiaso (Ash), April 12, GNA - A 385 million-cedi school block built to improve basic education delivery at Afiaso in the Adansi South District has been inaugurated by the acting District Chief Executive, Mr Dominic A.K. Yeboah.

The project, which was undertaken by the district assembly, was funded under the HIPC relief fund and that of the District Assembly Common Fund. It is made up of six classrooms, office and store. Mr Yeboah said no nation could develop without proper education of its citizens and that was why the government of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) continued to channel substantial chunk of the national budget into the education sector.

He said this year the government had taken the bold decision to make basic education free in 40 districts including Adansi South. Mr Yeboah said in spite of government's efforts, most schools in the rural communities continued to have problems, thereby affecting education standards in those areas. The problems include inadequate staffing, poor accommodation for teachers and poverty of parents leading to improper care of wards and poor school supervision.

Nana Appiah Dankwah, an Assistant Director of Education, commended the assembly and the DCE for committing substantial part of the assembly resources to improve school infrastructure in the district. Mr Edward K. Addai, the Headteacher of the school, appealed to the assembly to build teachers' quarters for the school.
