Likpe-Nkwanta, June 26, GNA - A 60-million cedi electrification project was commissioned at Likpe-Nkwanta, in the Hohoe District on Friday. The project was being jointly funded by the Hohoe District Assembly and Mr Nat Aduajoe, Member of Parliament for Hohoe-North with his share of the District Assembly's Common fund with the community providing communal labour.
Commissioning the project, Mr James Komla Dogbe, Hohoe District Chief Executive (DCE), gave the assurance that Government would continue to support communities, which would initiate self-help projects. He urged women in the area to form co-operatives to enable them to obtain loans to expand their farms and businesses. Mr Dogbe asked the electorate to vote for selfless and dedicated people in the 2004 General Election to ensure the rapid development of the area.
Mr Gustav Amedahe, Hohoe District Manager of the Electricity Company of Ghana, advised the people to use electricity wisely and pay their bills promptly. Mr Paul Onai, Assembly member for the area, commended the Assembly for implementing development projects to improve the standard of living of the people. He, however, appealed to the District Assembly to assist the only Primary School in the area, with furniture, store, and office for headmaster and accommodation for the teachers.
Mr Onai said the owner of the house rented for use as store and office had threatened to take the school to court for non-payment of rent and therefore appealed to the Assembly to assist take immediate steps to remedy the situation.
